I started making bags a few years ago after trying to figure out a creative way to show off my running race bibs. Three marathons, 18 half-marathons, and countless other smaller races later the numbers from my runs were steadily outgrowing the folder where I crammed them in my file cabinet. With a little help from my scanner - and my fabric stash - I sat down at my sewing machine and whipped up a cute, stylish, and fully-functional zipper pouch that proudly displayed the running bib where I ran my fastest 10K.
After playing with my bag for the rest of the day, I couldn't stop smiling. That little bag brought back the joy I felt when I ran the race. And, it was pretty darn fabulous!
Needless to say my excitement led to another bag. And, another bag. And, a whole lot of smiles.
With the encouragement of family and friends - who all wanted their own - I started making stylish, custom-made bags and gifts to make other people smile, too. Notice I said stylish. Not only are my bags made with quality, care and attention to detail, they're also designed to be beautiful. To make you shine. Because style and swagger matter. I'm just saying.
There's something special about giving a personalized gift - a joy that comes when you know someone took the time to create something specifically for you. While it all started with running bags, I find joy in creating in a variety of gifts for people who want to celebrate their own accomplishments or who simply want to do something special for someone else.
MY BACKGROUND
Before I started sewing up awesomeness, I was writing it. I'm an author, digital influencer, creator of the blog RunWifeyRun.com, and regular contributor at TravelingMom.com where I write about travel, running, family and fitness. In my previous life - before kids - I was a publicist for LaFace Records, where I contributed to the success of several superstar artists including Usher, OutKast and Toni Braxton. I've also worked in higher education holding several positions in the Office of Communications at Spelman College. In March 2009, I was featured on the Travel Channel’s “Great Cruises: Why Not The Mediterranean?” television show; and my life-changing wedding was featured on TLC’s “A Wedding Story.” I've been married to my FAVORITE and only husband for 20 years; and we have two kids, 18 and 16.
I sat down at my sewing machine a few years ago and have been channeling the inner seamstress in me ever since. The sewing instructor who taught my first class showed me that with patience, trial and error I could pretty much sew up the world.
